Project Info

Snail Manifesto is a visual exploration of daily life in Shanghai’s urban villages, where people live in extremely crowded conditions. Like snails in their shells, residents carry their lives in tight, improvised spaces. Through photography, mapping, and personal interviews, the project looks at one everyday act—drying clothes in public—as a way to discuss the lack of privacy, limited space, and blurred lines between private and shared life. At its core, Snail Manifesto asks: what does “space” mean when you have so little of it?
